Hillbilly Hot Tub
2008. Performance/Installation. Steel, copper, and wood. Dimensions variable. The Hillbilly Hot Tub Party was a one night event that combined music, drink and good times. Robert Turriff fabricated a wood fired dumpster hot tub, organized bar service, built a stage, faciltitated an art auction... and booked fantastic entertainment.
“Robert built a hot tub out of a garbage dumpster. That's right. A team of welders and sculptors created a four-person working hot tub and decided to host a hillbilly hot tub party to christen it. If that wasn't enough, they also built a stage complete with chicken-wire fencing, and then set up my band, as well as the Smokin' 45s and the Audio/Visuals for a wild night of music, dancing and hot tubbing. Dumpsters are usually relegated to the alleyways, so it was interesting to watch people celebrate this particular dumpster.”

“Turriff’s event Hillbilly Hot Tub brought together rowdy country music, chili cookoffs and variety acts centered on a finely crafted wood-fired and cedar-lined dumpster hot tub. Very spirited relational esthetics resulted, to say the least.”
- Caitlin Thompson, FastForward Weekly
“Then there was the Hillbilly Hot Tub party. Words cannot describe this truly amazing show. An amusing hillbilly mural. A fenced-in stage. And ... once the band stopped playing, scantily clad art students engaging in ... uh ... lively hot-tub activities. Kudos to Rob Turriff for putting together this fun show!”
